Psychotherapist

Welcome

Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be

lived forwards.

My therapy practice is in Pimlico – three minutes’ walk from

the tube station and ten minutes’ walk from Victoria station.

I started my counselling work twenty years ago after an

earlier career in nursing. Subsequently I trained to be a

psychoanalytic psychotherapist with a special interest in attachment theory. A further training with Relate

prepared me for what is now a key focus of my work - assisting couples

whose relationships are in trouble. This work can be open ended over a

long period or for just a few weeks.

The following pages aim to give you a sense of how I work and whether what I offer could be helpful to you. Please email me if you would like to speak to me or to make an initial appointment.  A first appointment is a one-off meeting for us to clarify whether my service will be a good fit for your needs.

I have taught counsellors and therapists on University and College courses since 1999 and in more recent years I have also trained supervisors.

On the final pages of the website I list the papers I have published in professional journals and my book about therapists' retirement.

My current research is focused on how partners find each other. I am exploring the relative strengths and weaknesses of the three different routes into relationship:

Falling in love or random romance

       Arranged marriage (not forced marriage)

Relationships which are self-arranged through dating sites

In order to better understand these different forms of courtship I am interviewing couples from each of these three traditions. If this is something in which you might be interested, please have a look at my Research pages and if you would like to take this further send me a message via the Contact page. My research interviews are quite separate from therapy sessions and I would not interview a couple who had been or might become clients.
